UNIT 4 Vocab for Things Fall Apart
Now that it is over 50 years old, Things Fall Apart has become recognized as a
classic piece of 20th Century literature. Written by Chinua Achebe, the story tells
the story of the British arrival in Nigeria, detailing the culture of a small village
before and after the arrival of whites. Achebe's story-telling mimics the folktale
structure of his Ibo tribal background.
While there are some African/Ibo words in the text, the following vocabulary words list what may be some less familiar English words -- listed in the order in which they appear in each chapter. It may be handy to keep this list open and near you as you read the chapters, in case you are unsure of any of these words.
